MEDICINE

Not a job, but a passion

The best remedy: exercise!

As a doctor, Jean-Jacques learned something very early in his career: there is no better medicine than exercise. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel: the more we’re in good physical health, the better we can fight off viruses and illnesses.

That’s why we were always very active. Nothing too intense: simply a few minutes of bike riding or walking each day was enough to keep us in good shape—both physically and mentally. Despite his passing, I still keep active and take into account all the advice he gave me over the years.

He often told me that I gave him the best gift of all a few months before Mélissa was born. I forced him (literally) to stop smoking! At first, he was grumpy, but he thanked me over and over again when the worst of his cravings was over!

It was the best decision he had ever made. My husband finally smelled good!

Mentoring

It was not secret. Jean-Jacques never completely stopped practicing medicine. It was important for him to share his knowledge and experience with new physicians.

He was immensely thrilled to see that more and more women became doctors. He always found that his field of work was too dominated by men and needed a feminine touch. I totally agreed with him!

He volunteered some of his time each week for young doctors in our healthcare system. He generously provided his tips and advice—invaluable information that only a seasoned physician could give.

He loved observing the new generation of brilliant doctors, brimming with potential. He admired the fact that they always wanted to do more for patients and refused to call them “clients.”

He often said that he learned more than students when he mentored. In a nutshell, he was unable to stop practising medicine.
